Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a potentially fatal collision during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when two safety personnel crossed the track immediately ahead of his car

The concerning event happened on the third rotation when marshals were seen on the racing surface as Lawson was rejoining the race following an premature pit stop to replace his damaged front wing

Shortly afterward, the Formula 1 racer Lawson radioed to his team engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Could you believe what happened? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was observing"

"I came out on a brand new hard tyres, and then I got to Turn One and there were just two individuals running across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, honestly, it was so dangerous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Evidently there's been a failure in communication at some point but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a live track track officials can be authorized to just run across the track like that. I have no idea why, I'm certain we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"

Governing Body Reviewing

Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, is thoroughly reviewing the events

"Subsequent to a first corner event, track officials was informed that debris was present on the track at the critical section of that bend" stated the regulatory authority

"In the third rotation, track officials were informed and placed on standby to access the circuit and clear the fragments once the entire field had cleared the area"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had pitted, the instructions to dispatch officials were canceled and a double yellow flag was displayed in that zone"
