Labuschagne Left Out from Australian ODI Squad Against Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-match ODI series facing India, as high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw getting a shock call-up.

Recent Form Lead to Omission

The right-hander was left out from the ODI squad after managing only a single run in his two batting efforts during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a best innings of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI innings.

Labuschagne has played 68 ODIs and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64, but will now continue to press his claims a Test team comeback ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Changes

Recent performances suggest of a return to form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a return to the Test team as Australia search for a fix to their opening batting issues.

Squad Selection Strategy and Schedule

Australia have named a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be player management through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India commences on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from 29 October.
