An extensive internet outage has disrupted numerous online platforms and apps globally, and users experiencing issues getting online after problems at Amazon’s web hosting service.
The affected platforms encompass the social media app Snapchat, Roblox, Signal, and the language learning app Duolingo, as well as multiple Amazon-owned operations such as its primary shopping site and the Ring device manufacturer.
Across the United Kingdom, the financial institution Lloyds was impacted along with its subsidiaries Halifax and Bank of Scotland, with further notifications of problems using the HM Revenue and Customs site on that morning. Also in the UK, multiple Ring users took to online platforms to state their home gadgets were not working.
In the UK alone, accounts of issues on particular applications totaled the tens of thousands for each platform.
The company stated that the problem started in the east coast of the America at Amazon Web Services, a section that supplies essential web infrastructure for many companies, who rent out capacity on Amazon servers. AWS is the biggest global cloud computing service.
