First-choice XI

The goalkeeper Not a save required during the opening 45 until forced to intervene by Arbër Hoxha’s bent shot. His sliding challenge on Qazim Laci showed sharp anticipation. 6/10

The newcomer His first start with the national team. Somewhat loose on the ball though his inswinging corners caused problems. A useful pace-controller available to the boss to utilize versus sides that sit back. Booked for a poorly timed tackle. Six

The midfielder Set-pieces from dead balls and free-kicks were dangerous. Was given license to roam in left midfield yet found himself in an offside position upon receiving with a chance to score. Given a merited rest after an hour. 6

Jude Bellingham Played in a forward position down the right and also put in dirty work. Demonstrated glimpses of brilliance but dragged a shot high. Substituted in the closing stages by Rogers, his competition, after receiving a caution. 7/10

Jarrod Bowen Was presented with England’s clearest opportunity of the first half, his effort well saved from Thomas Strakosha. As a teammate hanging back, he had to offer an outlet down the right side although his balls from the touchline varied in quality. Replaced late in the match. 6/10

The captain The difference-maker with his 77th and 78th goals in an England shirt. The opener a typical opportunist's goal while the second a superb header following a clever run away from the opposition. Aged 32, he’s only getting better with the national team have every chance in future competitions with him leading the line. 8

The attacker Found it tough to make an impact on the left flank. Had a presentable chance after being played in by Bellingham however the keeper kept it out. His replacement produced a bigger an impact after coming on. 5
