UK Immigration Authorities Issues Additional Entry Permits for University College London Foreign Learners

Hundreds overseas scholars will finally get to take up their offered university positions after talks involving the Home Office and UCL concluded with the government approving additional entry permits.

Visa Quota Problems

Several hundred of scholars, plenty from China, were stuck in a difficult situation after University College London failed to accurately predict the applications for study spots this session and went over its quota of study acceptance confirmation electronic documents authorized by the Home Office.

University Statement of Remorse and Assistance

University College London offered apologies to those affected, telling them it was "deeply regretful for the disturbance and doubt", and providing to cover £1,000 fees for requests made through UK Visa and Immigration's "fast-track option".

We're happy to confirm our concerned international learners that they can now start their courses at our university.

Unprecedented Demand

The institution said "an extraordinary surge in interest" was caused by the over-recruitment, and had initially informed students with guaranteed places that they should defer until next year, leading many to express concern they faced economic disadvantages after early booking for travel and accommodation.

Successful Resolution

Following discussions between University College London and the immigration authorities at the end of last Friday, scholars were advised that they would be granted entry permits after all.

A university representative for UCL said: "We deeply express regret to all those who have been concerned by the recent doubt and we are incredibly appreciative for their cooperation. Our staff are now moving rapidly to communicate with scholars individually with updates and help.

Student Reactions

Several applicants mentioned they had received emails from the university within the past 48 hours saying their study acceptance confirmations would be provided, a key prerequisite to be awarded a student visa. Some reported they had yet to received official notice.

An applicant commented: "I'm ecstatic to be able to learn in the Britain. We were advised conflicting messages since last month, it was very stressful. I was already bound to arranging accommodation in London, with no repayment available, so I am very relieved."

Geographic Effect

Roughly 200 learners from East Asia were concerned, with several already in the United Kingdom at the end of the previous month for the beginning of the academic session. Those on graduate studies were informed they had to be on campus by 10 October or lose their place.

We cannot thank you enough for your patience with this process and we are extremely sorry for the disturbance and confusion which this will have generated you.
